Have you ever wondered what the world looks like through your cat's eyes? Do they see the same things we do when we look out the window? Or does it only see in black and white?
Surveys have shown that the range of feline vision is not nearly as varied as ours. Little tigers can't even see as far as their human "parents". But how does their vision compare to ours? It's night vision!
Colours
The fact that we can distinguish a wide range of different colours is due to the so-called cones, which reside in the retina of the eye. Cats have far fewer cones than we do. This means they can only distinguish between blue, grey and yellow. But they can see colours that the human eye can't even register. This is due to the ultraviolet spectrum, which is only visible to us under black light.
Night vision
In addition to the cones, the eye also contains rods, thanks to which we are able to see brightness. It's probably not surprising that cats have many more rods than the human eye. They can hunt mice, find their way home or find a safe hiding place.
